1.There are many risk factors that can play a part in juvenile delinquency. Child maltreatment and abuse is a major cause of juvenile delinquency. Child maltreatment types involve physical, sexual, emotional abuse & neglect. These can all lead to cognitive developmental delay, growth, coping skills, communication, self-help, social skills and many other limitations. When a child cannot properly develop these skills it can cause juvenile delinquency. When a child suffers from these issues it can cause them to get into substance abuse, poor grades in school, lack of motivation and can be easily peer pressured into criminal activities. (2)when it comes to risk factors and juvenile delinquency, the most prevalent is poor parental skills, discord in the home, and truancy. One can only teach what one knows; if the parent is a young parent high school dropout, how much can they teach their child? In the home, in their first years of life, they will learn social skills that will help or hurt them grow into adulthood. What is the environment they are raised in? (Risk factors are personal traits, characteristics of the environment, or conditions in the family, school, or community.para1) I am sure we have heard the saying it takes a village to raise a child, which includes school social functions and community support. One can see risk factors in children growing up; they don’t hide them; they live by them daily.
