Swamped with your writing assignments? Take the weight off your shoulder!
Write a response paper on Ida B. Wells’s?The?Red Record. An ideal response paper will be 2–3 pages divided into two sections: Section one will contain a concise, original summary of the work you are addressing. The aim of this section is to convey your sense of Wells’s text in a way that will also refresh your reader’s memory of the text. Though some direct quotations of the author would be acceptable, it would be best to convey the broad strokes of the argument rather than provide too many fine details. This portion of the paper can easily be less than a page. Remember that you can return to the text for additional detail in the second section of your paper. Section two, the longer section of your argument, will be your response to Wells’s argument. Frame this response in a similar fashion to the literary criticism and interpretation we’ve been doing throughout this course. What does Wells do by way of style, voice, imagery, or any other literary device that interests you?
