The evangelical church members ask if they may lead the team in prayer before a big game. The Islamic students remind you of their need to fulfill their religious requirements to pray at specific times during the day that overlap with team meetings. The atheist students haven’t said anything to you about religion. You need to accommodate your students while also being sensitive to avariety of beliefs.
a. How do you respond to each group’s request? Support your decision with legal principles (i.e., explain which laws apply and why; what is your course of action based on the relevant laws)
b. Imagine you work for a private school (no federal funds)—will your response to the groups of students be different? Why? How might your response differ?

research and analysis on any artistic work from the Renaissance, Mannerist, or Baroque artistic movement and will usually present an argument for how the work speaks for that movement. The work may be an essay, painting, sculpture, poem, play, short story, novel, piece of architecture or piece of music. You will write one coherent essay, discussing why your chosen work does or does not fit well into the popular art movement of its era, but the various paragraphs moving your thesis forward will explain the following things about this work:
How does it react toward similar work of the prior artistic era – how is it different (or the same?)
How does this work react toward major ideas or power structures of it’s own time?
Keeping in mind your answers to the prior two questions, what values does the artist seem to promote?
How do the values of the artist conform or fail to conform to the dominant artistic movement of the work’s time? What makes this a work of the Renaissance, Mannerist or Baroque era?
While you will strive to answer the above questions, they must not seem to be disconnected “answers to questions” but rather parts of a whole and connected evaluation of the artwork.

Write a short essay on ONE of the following topics. Be sure to support your arguments by exact references to the material that you have read and watched during Weeks 2 and 3 of this course. Avoid long quotes, and express the ideas found in the texts in your own words as much as possible. The essay should be between 600 and 700 words. Use font size 12 and double space the essay. 1. The Meiji Restoration ushered in a period of rapid modernization, industrialization, and social and political change in Japan at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. The drive towards modernization was accompanied by attacks on superstition and what was perceived to be backward beliefs and customs, along with a push for adopting scientific thinking and modern ways of life. Describe how Natsume Sōseki and Akutagwa Ryūnosuke defied these trends to abandon elements of Japan’s past and insisted instead on telling stories that reflected Japanese culture and customs molded in a modern narrative style.
